Plain side scrapers create smooth sides and tops of cakes coated with creams, chocolate and royal icing.

1. Spread an even layer of icing onto the side of the cake using a palette knife.

2 Take the Plain Side Scraper and hold it firmly at an angle to the side of the cake.

3. Draw the scraper towards you in a steady movement and maintaining an even pressure.

Tip: to obtain the best finish it is advisable to place the cake onto a turntable. This will enable the cake to move easily and create a smooth, even finish around the side of the cake.

NOTE: tools used with food products should be kept separate from those used with non-food materials e.g. craft clay
